The university’s Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has set the standard of excellence for over a century on the national stage and as a charter member of the Big Ten conference. With a storied history of national championships, Big Ten titles and legendary teams, Fighting Illini athletes unite and inspire the university’s passionate fanbase of students and alumni. 

Illinois also boasts a strong offering of recreational and club sports and wellness initiatives through Campus Recreation. Illinois students and faculty have access to two modern recreation centers along with dozens of intramural sports. Illinois has also been a pioneer in advancing wheelchair sports programming for more than 70 years through the nationally recognized Disability Resources and Educational Services unit.
